On Thursday the Design & Technology department had its first Year 6 Designers’ Day with pupils from St Johns and Goodwyn School joining our own children for the event. Our visiting designer for the day was Lionel Correya from j-me original design (www.j-me.com) who spoke to the children about his career and his early influences. He then shared some of his products with the students and led them through the process of bringing a new product to market – the children were all impressed with the photo of Lionel’s office with his dartboard and foosball table which he uses to get into his ‘creative’ mindset; I think many of our pupils now want to be a designer as well!
We then broke off into 2 workshops where the children could develop their own creativity and in teams of 4 produce mock-ups and models for a bottle and packaging design for a new perfume or cologne. The children worked well and embraced the challenge and really impressed Lionel with their passion and ability in the subject.
Well done to all the students involved and a big thank you to the staff who helped make the day possible…I’m looking forward to next year’s event already.
