In Reception task time the children have been exploring the musical instruments that we have in the playground. They noticed that the instruments are all different sizes and get bigger by step. We explored how the different sizes effect the sound of the instruments and they worked out that the shorter end of the instrument had the highest sound and the taller side had the lowest sound. We then created our own human version of the instruments and arranged ourselves in height order. I pretended to play our human instrument and the children made a sound at the correct pitch to reflect where they were in the line.
Thank you to Victoria who brought in her violin to play for us in her music lesson. The children asked her questions about the instrument which she answered brilliantly. Victoria demonstrated different ways of playing the violin and the correct way to hold it.
