Anti-bullying Week at Grimsdell

On Tuesday, Year 1 took part in powerful Anti-bullying workshops conducted by Perform for schools. The workshop involved drama and role-play so the children could understand how to identify if they are being bullied, what they have to do, how to communicate and how to act around a potential bully. The children learnt lots of useful strategies and had lots of fun!

Each class spent time with the Perform teacher, Chloe, learning how to approach, communicate and face up to bullies. This was performed through a series of dramatic exercises, teaching the children:

  • the importance of having confident body language
  • how to have a strong, clear and assertive voice
  • role-play using facial expressions
  • expressing emotions
  • fighting peer pressure
  • accepting that we are all different

The main theme of Anti-bullying week 2019- ‘Change starts with us’, teaches the children how to work together to make changes regarding bullying and to make a difference.

Quote from the Anti-bullying alliance:

“Whether it is verbal, physical, online or in-person, bullying has a significant impact on a child’s life well into adulthood. By making small, simple changes, we can break this cycle and create a safe environment for everyone. Because together, we can challenge bullying. Change starts with a conversation. It starts with checking in. It starts with work together.”
