This Wednesday Jake Garfield, Graduate Print-maker of the Royal Academy of Art, came to deliver a lecture and workshop on the topic of Art & Philosophy. As well engaging in an invigorating and challenging discussion about the question ‘What is a Self-Portrait?’, pupils drew self-portraits in various styles and techniques to encourage close-looking. The workshop also involved a self-portrait themed Life Class session. It was an exhausting but enriching afternoon of drawing, looking and discussing.
Jake was very impressed by our Sixth Form artists and has written to me to say: ‘It was a real pleasure working with such a thoughtful and engaged group and was amazing to see how much the pupils individuality is nurtured.’
