The Fall of The Berlin Wall

Last week we celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall. Pupils in the Fourth Form took part in a general knowledge quiz with answers stuck around the school. Questions included: Why was the wall built? What was the name of the East German Secret Police? Which American President challenged the Soviet leader, Michael Gorbachev, to ‘tear down this wall?

On Thursday, we all enjoyed a delicious German lunch which included Currywurst, Schnitzel and Black Forest cake mousse. The Catering Staff did us all proud.

In Chapel, Upper Sixth German pupils gave presentations about the history of the Berlin wall. Sylvia R (Priestley) told a fascinating story about how her great grandfather escaped to West Berlin. His son, her grandfather, also escaped by trekking through the Harz Mountains.
