This week in Year 1…

This week, Year One began the week by remembering the many soldiers who lost their lives in battle during the Great War.  We showed our respect by keeping silent for one minute. When we returned to our classrooms the next day, we discovered that a tall beanstalk had grown and giant boots were dangling from the ceiling!  This naturally prompted us to read Jack and the Beanstalk.  We began by wondering why Jack’s mother was so cross with her son Jack and created our own dialogue between these two characters.  In Science, we considered the question ‘Do beans need soil to grow?’ and began our investigation by planting beans in different containers; one with sand, one with cotton wool, one with paper and one with nothing at all!  We also each planted our own bean in soil too. It will be very interesting to observe how our beans grow over the coming weeks.
