Day four in New York

This morning I woke up to the sound of Laura dramatically exclaiming “Frick frackels our alarm didn’t go off!” After throwing on whatever we could find, we ran to breakfast where we all got our energy for the day.

After breakfast we walked to the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) where we saw many very well known works from artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Picasso and Frida Kahlo. After the MOMA we took the subway to Chelsea Flower Market where we had a very wide range of cuisines to choose from for lunch.

After we had all finished, we walked a few blocks down to the Whitney Gallery where we looked at some of the most influential pieces of art in New York City and sketched our responses to our favourite pieces. Today our gallery competition was to find a piece of art that we could link back to a famous movie the teachers selected for us. With my film being Call Me By Your Name and Laura’s being Mary Poppins we were in luck, as there was inspiration and connections all around us.

Conveniently the Highline entrance was right next to the Whitney Gallery, and so we enjoyed a lovely nighttime stroll around the historic railways site, which was lit up by rows of lights and the skyscrapers that overlooked it.

After the Highline we found ourselves in Hudson Boulevard, climbing to the top of an architectural installation called The Vessel, which was illuminated by a big blue light. After making our way down, we found a great dinner spot at a vegan friendly restaurant called Pure Ktchn, where I’m sure a lot of us experienced foods that we had never had before. We then headed back to our hotel rooms and packed our bags ready for the next day. It was truly a great day!
