Year 2 have been getting to grips with understanding and writing rhythms in 4/4 time. They were able to work out the rhythm of a song using rhythm language (ti ti, ta) where the sounds represent the length of the notes. They initially showed the shape of the rhythm using their bodies whilst someone drew it out. They were also able to recognise rests in the music and notate this. I was impressed with their ability to clap out new rhythms that they had invented themselves whilst keeping in time with the pulse.
