This week in Year 1…

This week in Year 1 we have experienced a wonderful celebration of books and stories. Thank you to all the brilliant mystery readers, for devoting your time and enthusiasm in supporting our classes. Our focus text for the week has been ‘A planet full of plastic’ by Neal Layton, it discusses the invention of plastic its positives and negatives as a material, and the issues with using single-use plastics. The book also identifies the ocean plastic patches that pollute our seas. In Geography, we explored and investigated globes, maps and even learnt a song to help remember the names and locations of the five oceans. We also wrote captions for the types of plastic polluting our seas and the effect on marine life.

On Wednesday we took part in the ‘Great Big School Clean’, we worked within our house groups to try to collect the most rubbish from our school campus. Watch this space for the winner!

In Maths, we focused on subtraction using our ‘think 10’ method, staying within and crossing 10.
