This week in Reception, the children were excited to begin our Anima Phonics programme in class, where we introduced the first four phonemes.
We reinforced these phonemes with fine and gross motor activities like threading the worm through the apple (a), picking up small insects (i) with tweezers and, the most fun of all, blowing and p-p-p-p-popping bubbles (p).
Alongside the phonics we introduced the children to the sentence ‘I am four’ (or five), asking them to jumble/unjumble the sentence and make their own. This begins to teach the children how letters and words fit together to make sentences we can read and write.
