This week in Year 2…

Year 2 had an incredible start! We all went down to the woods and Lara found a letter addressed to us. It was from the Friendly Forester, who told us they had been looking after the woods and that our help was needed to provide more information about the woods. The children were so excited and took turns guessing who the Friendly Forester was and they even suggested some questions that we might like to ask them.

We took time to familiarise ourselves with the woods and we reminded the children of boundaries and Forest School rules. They were really helpful by collecting dry wood for the fire and they returned quickly to the fire circle when I called “one, two, three, where are you?”

The children were instructed to use their senses to think about words that they could use to describe what they could see, hear, smell and touch in the woods. They came up with some very interesting ideas which they wrote down, and used this list to help them with writing a senses poem when they returned to class.

Ms Moir lit a roaring fire and we spent the rest of the time roasting marshmallows. They were delicious! The children were allowed time for forest play which included rolling down hills, sliding down slopes and exploring the woods. Thank you all for a wonderful start to our ‘Into the Woods’ topic.
