This Week in Nursery…

We have had a fantastic week in Nursery. We started off the week with Odd Socks Day to start anti-bullying week. The children were very excited to share their odd socks and we had great discussions about the patterns and colours of their socks. We then read the story of Elmer, we talked about how Elmer is different but that is why all the other elephants love him. We discussed how we are all different and that’s what makes us special. The children then decorated their own socks using bright colours.

When the children returned to school on Monday the role play area had transformed into a special celebration area. We used the ideas from their celebration pictures for show and tell to provide the children with resources to celebrate birthdays, Christmas, Chanukah, Shabbat and Easter. The children have absolutely loved this area this week. We have seen some lovely interactions and the children have shared their knowledge, written invitations and blown up balloons.

On Tuesday the children made shakers. We planned this activity to build on the children’s phase one phonics learning. We practiced beats and rhythms as well as talking about recycling and creating something with an item you would usually throw in the bin.

This week we have been thinking about the story of the three little pigs. We read three different versions of this story and discussed how the each one is different or the same. We then cut out pictures and placed them in the correct order to re-tell the story.

Today the children have absolutely loved Diwali day. We tasted some interesting food, decorated Diva lamps, made Rangoli patterns and created some fireworks.
