This Week in Year 2!

This has been a truly exciting week for Grimsdell!

We were thrilled to welcome Year 2 parents to the Christingle Service on Monday afternoon. Thank you so much to all those who could attend. Our Year 2 readers did a magnificent job with the superb support of Mrs Harvey – well done Angel, Sebastian, Lia, William and Stella.

Huge congratulations to all our actors and actresses in Year 2 who stole the show at the Nut-ivity performance on Thursday and Friday this week. They have worked so incredibly hard over the last couple of months learning their lines and songs for the show. They have been very ably supported and expertly coached by Miss Gale and Mrs Harvey. I am sure you will agree that the children were fabulous, and we would like to thank our brilliant parents for their support with costumes and learning lines.

In English this week we have been working on freeze frames linked to the book ‘The Great Fire of London’ focusing on the pages relating to the city in ruins after the fire. We discussed feelings of sadness, worry and concern and how the people of London in 1666 would have felt if this happened to the city where they lived or even if the fire had destroyed their home.

In History the children learnt about the significance of Samuel Pepys and his infamous diary which provided detailed information about The Great Fire of London. They created a fact file about him either by using a template or by designing their own.

As an extra challenge for their ‘Take a Closer Look’, the children have been tasked with using different materials to make London landmarks and winter themed collages. They have worked so hard at home with these optional challenges that we thought we would share their super efforts so please have a look at the pictures of their work.
