This week in Year 1…

As it is Science Week, the children have had a range of exciting and inspiring experiences this week. A special ‘Mad Science’ Assembly to kick-start Science week, a class workshop with one of the Mad Scientists that helped us investigate our bones, muscles and even how many cells we all have! The children were immersed in listening to their heart beat and how they changed after some vigorous exercise. To round out the week, Year 1 had a small insight into Science at Belmont. As Year 5 students and teachers supported our children in an exciting experiment.

We carried on with our observation of the sunflowers we planted last week, documenting any changes. We also have some real-life very hungry caterpillars in our classrooms. Children are delighting in making observations of the early stages of their metamorphosis. In literacy, we began learning about writing a setting description by generating adjectives to describe a setting.

The children are busily preparing for their Year 1 play. Miss Gale has the children reciting their lines, practising positions and singing their hearts out in eager anticipation of their Year 1 Show debut of ‘My Supersonic Cardboard box’.
