After the excitement of last week, this week continued to provide multiple opportunities for joy and laughter! We kicked off the week with 100 maths day and there was great hilarity when the children arrived at school to see the staff dressed up as though they were 100 years old! Thank you again parents for sending your children to school with numbers on their t-shirts. Year 2 spent the morning before break completing a carousel of activities which included building a tower with 100 cups, making a model with 100 Unifix cubes and sticking 100 shapes onto a picture.
Our topic work continued in full force this week with our focus still on the book ‘Fly Kite Fly’ by John Winch. The children took time to work in pairs and set the scene with props so we could take freeze frame pictures from important parts of the story. This task incorporated many subjects across the curriculum including Computing, Drama and English. Next they used their freeze frame pictures and added them to a diary which they wrote by pretending to be Giacomo from the story. They had to write this in the first person by using ‘I’ and ‘me’ instead of ‘he’ and ‘they’ also remembering to include details from the story. The staff were really impressed by the children’s efforts with this challenge – well done Year 2!
