James Selected for The British Youth 29er Summer Sailing Team

James (Lower Sixth, School House) has been selected for The British Youth 29er Summer Sailing Team. This is a highly selective team and everyone at Mill Hill School is incredibly proud of him. This summer James will be racing in the European championships in Denmark Copenhagen, the World Championships in Barcelona and the UK nationals.

James spoke to us about his love of sailing and the competition:

“My passion for sailing started at my family’s holiday home in Wales. There were lots of boats on the water and I watched some races. I found it incredibly exciting and I decided to get involved. I joined the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) and have been a part of it ever since.

This summer, I am looking forward to competing against other countries. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, we have been unable to race against international teams until now. I am excited to learn about their sailing techniques and see how fast they are on the water.

Being a sports scholar at Mill Hill School has massively helped me to improve my sailing skills. I am very fortunate to be supported by a wide range of fantastic professionals at the School. I work with a Physio Therapist (Miss Pritchard), Strength and Conditioning Coach (Mr Nicholls), Nutritionist (Miss MacDonald) and Mental Skills Coach (Mr Hatherley-Hurford). The entire team is fantastic and they have all helped me to consider my nutrition, fitness and mindset.”

James is a very talented and determined young man and we wish him all the best in his upcoming competitions.
