Lower School Production of Julius Caesar – An Excellent Performance

‘Our Lower School Production of Julius Caesar took place this week and our Fourth Form and Remove cast were met with universal praise. Their confident grasp of the language provided the basis for a modern, gripping retelling of Shakespeare’s classic tragedy.

Huxley (Remove, McClure) and Mina (Fourth Form, Atkinson) led the line as Brutus and Cassius, ably creating an atmosphere of rising tension as the pair begin their plot to remove Caesar from power. Sasha (Fourth Form, Cedars), as the mighty Caesar, deftly demonstrated two sides of the rule: the warm, caring public image juxtaposed with a steely, ambitious core. Aliyah (Fourth Form, School House) provided the play’s show-stopping moment, with an incredible rendition of Mark Antony’s famous ‘Friends, Romans, Countrymen’ speech.

The ensemble truly brought the play to life, with Brutus and Cassius’s fellow conspirators all bringing out their particular character, while other actors darted back and forth playing multiple different roles throughout the story. In a technically complex show, Noah (Remove, Atkinson) did a fantastic job operating the lighting, while Max (Lower Sixth, McClure) spent hours ensuring our three large screens worked correctly.

A huge well done to all those involved for creating a timely and powerful piece of theatre.’
