Year 1 have been exploring the percussion instruments by marking the pulse. We discussed the correct techniques needed to play the instruments and the difference between pulse and the rhythm. Year 1 have been working on feeling the pulse on their bodies this year, however when transferring this to an instrument it can often feel very different. The children worked hard to stick to the pulse and vary the coordination they needed for the different instruments.
Reception have been exploring ‘Timbre’ by guessing each other’s voices and the unique sounds of the percussion instruments. They enjoyed hiding with their instruments behind a curtain so that their friends could guess the sound without seeing the instrument!
