Reception task time started this week. This is an optional additional music session for those children who wish to explore music further. We experimented with different types of percussion instruments, finding the correct ways to play them. The children found that there was more than one way of playing some instruments and some even produced different pitches. They learnt that the size of the instrument changes the pitch and enjoyed hearing the difference and working out which one was higher and lower. They were also fascinated by the vibrations of the metal instruments in particular and how they simply didn’t “ring” if they weren’t allowed to vibrate. This meant they had to make sure that they were holding the instrument correctly and weren’t touching the metal part. It was fun to play around with the difference in sound.
