House Music 2022!

In the last week of term, we held our annual House Music Competition for the first time since before the pandemic. Thirteen Houses competed in the event and displayed an excellent array of performances. Each House performed a solo piece, a small ensemble performance, a school hymn, and a massed (whole House) piece. The pupils’ hard work and dedication throughout their rehearsals paid off, and it was wonderful to listen to such a high standard of musical talent.

We were delighted to welcome the highly renowned Harry Thatcher, a British Baritone, to judge the competition. The thirteen houses certainly did not make his decision a simple one. After Harry explained his criteria for the best performance, Priestley House was crowned overall winners of House Music 2022, with Burton Bank placing second, and Weymouth placing third. Harry was also asked to select the winners of the Solo Prize (Ruhan, Upper Sixth, Weymouth), the Ensemble Prize (Priestley), the Hymn Prize (Collinson), and the Massed Item Prize (Burton Bank). Harry was a fantastic judge and it was great to welcome him to the School. We are very proud of everyone who took part. Our staff were very impressed by the teamwork and community spirit each House displayed.

Mr Kyle (Director of Musical Performance) was hugely impressed with the musicality of the performances and expressed his gratitude to everyone involved: “Thank you for all your support with House Music this year. It has been a joy to hear so much singing and so many people talking about music around the school.”

We are incredibly grateful for everyone involved in this event, whether offering support, performing, or spectating, and we believe it continues to strengthen our school community. We are already looking forward to House Music 2023 and wonder whether Priestley House will remain victorious….
