Oscar Awarded a Place at the Junior Royal Academy of Music

Oscar (Fourth Form, Cedars) has been awarded a place as a trombone player at the Junior Royal Academy of Music. The Academy meets on Saturdays and educates some of the country’s finest young musicians. Oscar is a very talented musician who specialises in Singing and playing the Trombone. He is a Music Scholar at Mill Hill, a member of our School’s Big Band and a part of the strongest trombone section the school has ever had.

The audition process for the Academy was very competitive, and he has done superbly to be accepted into the program. Firstly, Oscar recorded two pieces and music for the Academy. He recorded these at Mill Hill School with one of our pianists. Secondly, he visited the Academy to audition. He went on a tour and had a lesson with one of their teachers. Oscar will go to the Academy every Saturday to participate in the Choir, Symphony and Trombone lessons. He will also learn Music Theory.

Oscar told us he is most looking forward to performing in the symphony and can’t believe how many strong players there are! He also mentioned his gratitude to Mr Kyle (Head of Music) for encouraging him to apply. Mr Kyle said this to say “Oscar has given a huge amount to the Music School since starting here five weeks ago, and we’re thrilled to have him as part of our team.”

This is a wonderful achievement, and we cannot wait to see what’s in store for Oscar!
