Inter-House Debating Competition

We have held an exciting semi-final of the Inter-House debating competition. Oak House debating team Jason (Year 10, Oak House), Tilly (Year 11, Oak House), Hunayn (Year 11, Oak House), Ethan (Year 11, Oak House) and Pacem (Year 11, Oak House) faced a tough opponent, Atkinson House.

The motion of the debate was ‘this house would ban the consumption and buying of meat.’ Oak House was chosen to oppose the motion. Following a powerful opening speech by Atkinson House, Jason replied with an equally strong argument to counter their points. Tilly offered a rebuttal to the motion and Hunayn summarised the argument for the House. The debate centred around the environmental and religious impact of the motion in the UK and around the world.

In the end, and with only one point difference between the houses, Atkinson progressed to the final. Hunayn was chosen at the debater of the day for his exceptional performance, making pertinent points and making a strong summary during the debate. With this being Oak House’s first foray into this competition they have a set a high bar for themselves and have sent a warning to the other houses in this competition… this year they were finding their feet; look out for them next year.
