This half term the Music School has been involved with a multitude of additional concerts on top of our twice-weekly relaxed Coffee Concerts and daily participation in Chapel Services. The first week back saw our second Music School Recital of the year, in which the Opari Duo (Duygu Ince – Violin, Berx Koçkaya – Guitar) presented a highly compelling programme consisting of Phillip Houghton’s Banshee and original arrangements of solo piano works by Debussy. This was followed by a trip to Hatfield House by our Big Band and Camerata to support the Laureate Academy in their first-ever Musical Gala.
On Thursday 24 November, we were delighted to have the eminent tenor, Charne Rochford, at Mill Hill as part of the Fourth Form concert. Alongside Charne’s effervescent rendition of Verdi’s La Donne é Mobile, we heard the Fourth Form sing the Anvil Chorus from Il Trovatore and an extravaganza of compositions based on Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells by Daniel Murray, Serena Atkinson, and Brian Ridgeway. Last week, we partnered with the Charity Committee to produce Unplugged, our annual charity pop concert, back in its usual home in the Patrick Troughton Theatre. All proceeds from the concert were donated in aid of the charity “it’s never you” supporting the parents of children with cancer.
Our penultimate concert of the term was the Music School Concert on the 5 December, which brought together eight of our ensembles and choirs from across the musical spectrum to a heart-warming celebration of a fabulous term of music-making. Almost all of our concerts are free to attend, so please do get in touch with us at music@millhill.org.uk if you would like any further information.
