This week in Reception….

CHRISTMAS IS HERE!

We are so excited to be celebrating Christmas in Reception this week! Each class has their own Santa’s grotto and elves workshop. Children have been selling tickets to see Santa, decorating Christmas trees, wrapping presents, writing cards and filling stockings. We have enjoyed writing lists to Santa, making Christmas cards and learning all about Christmas. On Friday we had our Christmas Party where we played pass the parcel, musical bumps, and statues and four corners. They all listened so well and congratulated friends on winning a game. The highlight of the day was a visit from Santa too! We were so lucky to also get a present from him, it put smiles in our tummies!

During all this excitement we also have been practising our Christmas show with Mrs Wakefield and Miss Gale. We cannot wait for you to see our stars on stage shining!

In Phonics we learnt the sounds w, igh, th and th, you can practise these sounds with Miss Baines on Tapestry. The ‘th’ digraph makes two sounds, one is a soft sound where the children stick a bit of their tongue out and the other sound is a silly sound, for this sound you put your tongue behind your teeth to make the sound. Sometimes looking in the mirror can help make this sound. We also learnt a new rainbow word the. I wonder if your child can spot this word in any reading books.

In Maths we have enjoyed exploring shape following our patterns. We have made shape collages, made our own snowmen and decorating baubles in different ways.

We hope you have a lovely weekend! We can’t believe it is almost the end of our first term together!
