Year 1 had fun this week with our giant scrunchie! We used this to help show the pulse of our new song ‘Bow wow wow’. The elastic in the scrunchie gives an immediate bounce and helps the children to feel the pulse. This song contains rests and we explored different ways to fill the gap to help us to stay in time. The children had lots of different ideas – we used sound effects, words and various actions. The scrunchie was also used to mark the rest in different ways; over the head, tapping our hip and rowing it backwards. The children learnt how to write a rest in notation and will be exploring this further in the weeks to come.
