Meet Mr Meakin, Assistant Head (Boarding) at Mill Hill School. We had the chance to speak with Mr Meakin to find out more about him and his role!
How long have you worked at The Mill Hill School Foundation?
I started my role at the Foundation on the 4th of January 2023. I have only been here for a short while, but I have loved my time here so far!
What does your role involve?
As the Assistant Head (Boarding), I am responsible for the Foundation’s boarding provision. This involves overseeing the Boarding Houses and working closely with our Housemasters. I live here on-site with my wife and our Golden Retriever, Wilf. I spend lots of time with our boarders around the school site and also teach some for their PSHE lessons. I am a musician by discipline and am looking forwards to getting involved with Music here at the Foundation.
What is your favourite thing about The Mill Hill School Foundation?
My favourite thing about the Foundation so far has been the people both pupils and staff. They have all been extremely warm and welcoming towards me which has been a terrific way to start life in Mill Hill.
Do you have any advice for our pupils which could help them to get the most out of their time at school?
At Mill Hill, exciting events, activities and opportunities are plentiful. Pupils should do their best to practice their skills, enjoy their hobbies or try to find new ones!
What is your favourite book and film for our pupils and why?
My favourite novel is ‘My Family and Other Animals’ by Gerald Durrell, and I absolutely love the film ‘Mrs Doubtfire’!
Could you share an inspirational quote with us? How does it inspire you?
I often say to my pupils, ‘work hard and play hard, but never mix the two!’. This is a great reminder to have fun but to take your studies seriously, although, studying can be fun too!
Can you tell us something that we might not know about you?
I am interested in vintage and classic cars and machinery, and have a small collection, all awaiting restoration!
