British Science Week Chapel

We have enjoyed a special British Science Week Chapel! Mr Dusza, Acting Head of Physics presented a fantastic assembly on Quantum Physics and discussed Schrödinger’s Cat theory.

Schrödinger’s Cat theory is a thought experiment which states that if you place a cat and something that could kill the cat (a radioactive atom) in a box and seal it, you would not know if the cat was dead or alive until you opened the box. As a result, until the box is opened, the cat is, in a sense, both dead and alive.

Dr Damberg, Head of Science helped prove Schrödinger’s Cat theory by bringing in her cat Amy and putting her in a box with milk (not a radioactive atom!). This demonstration proved that Amy was both awake and asleep – because as she would either be drinking the milk, which meant she was awake or not drinking the milk and was sleeping.

Thank you to Mr Dusza, Acting Head of Physics and Dr Damberg, Head of Science for giving such an insightful assembly!
