McClure Instrumental Competition

The Music School has been running the McClure Instrumental Competition over the last two weeks. The competition is made up of two rounds: the heats and the final. Pupils compete in categories that are separated by grade ability. These categories range from complete beginner to those that are of a post-grade 8 standard and so are open to all instrumentalists at Mill Hill School and Mill Hill International.

The competition was a great opportunity for our musicians to perform in front of their peers and to listen to and appreciate each other’s playing. Despite the competitive nature of the Prize, it was lovely to see the camaraderie amongst pupils, something that our adjudicator for the final praised our pupils for.

Many thanks to our Visiting Music Teachers for judging the heats. It was lovely to welcome Mr James Williams (Head of Music at Cobham Hall School) to adjudicate the competition. He announced what he was looking for in his winners for each category when awarding the prizes and spoke about everything from being well rehearsed and polished to having a strong sense of expression when performing.

A huge congratulations goes to the winners of each of the Categories:

A – Edie W (Atkinson House)

B – Corinne L (McClure House)

C – Harry L (Burton Bank House)

D – Sebastian J (Collinson House)

E – Edward B (Weymouth House), Lana M (Murray House), Ruhan V (Weymouth House), Alex K (Winfield House), Neo M (School House)
