Meet Ms Casey

Yesterday was World Book Day. We thought this would be an excellent opportunity to chat with our new librarian Miss Casey. Learning more about Miss Casey and her role at Mill Hill was wonderful, and we think she is an excellent addition to the School!

How long have you worked at Mill Hill School?

I started at Mill Hill School on the 4th of January 2023!

What does your role involve?

As librarian, I manage the Piper and Winterstoke libraries. My role has several different components, including helping pupils, ordering new material for the library, managing and organising the collection, and working with teachers to make sure the library is meeting the needs of everyone at Mill Hill School.

Another large part of my role is to find ways to update and modernise both the Piper and Winterstoke libraries. I’ve been working on a lot of ideas and plans for how to improve the library and would love any feedback from pupils and staff!

What is your favourite thing about Mill Hill School?

My favourite things about Mill Hill School are the people and the beautiful grounds. I’ve been here less than two months, but it’s all been really lovely!

What is your favourite book and film for our pupils and why?

My favourite book is ‘Persuasion’ by Jane Austen. It’s difficult to choose a favourite film, but I like modern adaptations and reinterpretations of classic novels and plays as they can make the material fun and approachable in a new and different way.

As for books that are a favourite to recommend to pupils, ‘The Catcher in the Rye’ by JD Salinger tops my list, with Harper Lee’s ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ as a close second.

World Book Day was on Thursday 2 March, what are your thoughts about this day?

As an American, World Book Day is relatively new to me. I think it’s a really great way to celebrate reading and I have enjoyed taking part in it! I have created a display in the library with a collection of staff favourites, which I hope everyone will come and check out!

Can you tell us something that we might not know about you?

I have lived in the USA, the UK and Germany! I grew up in San Francisco, I first moved to London to complete a master’s degree in Literature with a focus on Romantic and Victorian literature, I moved then back to London for this job!
