This week in Reception…

What a fun week Reception have had during Book Week!

Book Week started with a ‘Teacher Run’ where we had visits from various Teachers and Teaching Assistants in Grimsdell reading a story to us all.  It was very exciting to have a new teacher in our class reading us their favourite book.

Throughout the week we have been sharing our favourite texts with our class and showing and telling why we love the book and also describing our favourite parts.

We took part in ‘Buddy Reading’ with another class in school where we shared texts with another child in the class. RAB children read with Nursery, RAM read with 2AM and RHH shared books with 1LR.  It was lovely to discuss a text with a new friend and listen to them read.

On Thursday we celebrated World Book Day in our fantastic costumes! We took part in a whole school parade where we showcased our costumes. We saw costumes of characters from a range of stories and Authors. Thank you for taking part in World Book Day!

On Friday we had a special Author visitor from Fran Preston Gannon. We listened to her read the story of ‘In The Swamp By the Light Of The Moon’.  We took part in activities from this text such as: using pipettes to make patterns on lily pads, creating a swamp in the water tray and making music with instruments from the story. It was great to see lots of children buying books written by our special Author Fran at the Muswell Hill Book Fair.

We continued our topic of ‘Space’ by designing our own ‘Space Suits’ and helmets. The children were set a challenge to design and make their suit by using a pillow case, material and pegs. We are ready to take off to the moon!
