This week in Year 1…

Wow what a busy Book Week we have had! The adults took part in the Rapid Reading Runs, Belmont Librarians came to read with us and we buddied up to share books with 1NS. Year 1 had lots of Mystery Readers and the author Frann Preston Gannon, who wrote ‘There’s a Rang-Tan in my bedroom’ came to talk to us. We have had a daily book clue competition and we all dressed up as a book character on World Book Day and paraded in the hall — what amazing costumes!

The children have been very enthusiastic and demonstrated a real love of books and reading. Thank you to all the parents for your support especially with sorting creative costumes and being Mystery Readers.

Apart from lots of reading and book sharing, in Literacy this week we have been continuing with sequencing the book ‘How to be on the Moon’ we discussed the key parts of the story, the beginning, middle and end. We then drew a story map to help with more detailed sequencing and are using this to guide us in retelling the story in our own words.
