Sports Tour to Cardiff

At the start of the Easter break, 66 pupils from Years 7 and 8 travelled to South Wales for the long-awaited Sports Tour. We had a packed schedule, with matches even taking place enroute to our final destination.

The first set of Netball and Football fixtures against Leighton Park School saw Belmont victories at every level and our success continued as we played Bath FC on our journey along the M4. The group also had the privilege of meeting the Team Bath Netball Squad.

In Wales, the tour continued on a high both on and off the sports field, with a training session for the girls with Celtic Dragons stars Ali Housley and Gabby Sinclair. The boys worked with the Cardiff City Foundation before watching the hotly contested derby between Swansea City and Cardiff. In a thrilling match, Swansea scored the winner in the last minute of the game. Our final set of fixtures saw the squads take on the best that Wales had to offer in six fantastic fixtures at The House of Sport in Cardiff. We finished the weekend with a trip to the Cardiff Devils Ice Hockey Arena to watch the penultimate game of the season against the Sheffield Stealers.

This was an action-packed tour with some incredible results and performances, and with the pupils getting a taste of what life could be like if they continue to give their all in every situation they face. They epitomised the Belmont values throughout, and their conduct, behaviour and attitude were always exemplary with many positive comments coming from every team they faced.

As a department, we are incredibly proud of each and every pupil that attended and I would also like to extend my thanks to the many staff that joined us on tour giving up their own time with their families. We very much look forward to the next one already and are busy behind the scenes working on an exciting new tour!
