Year 2 have been recapping the reading and writing of rhythms using the extremely accessible Kodaly method. We have been working out the rhythm of some of our core songs using ‘ta’, ‘te-te ‘and a 1 beat rest ‘Z’. The children presented these in a few different ways; initially with their bodies, then on a whiteboard and finally with sticks.
This led us into talking about the structure of songs and how they are built, and this is something we will continue to work on after the half term. Some songs had the same rhythm throughout and some had a pattern. They quickly grasped the concept of labelling these A, B, C etc and began to create their own compositions.
