This week in Year 1…

Another busy week for us in Year 1. We had a fantastic trip to Kew Gardens in which the children became detectives! We found a fly which had been torn apart by a carnivore and set about solving the clues to find the culprit. The children learned about food chains and discovered that some plants are carnivorous! Our journey took us into different environments and habitats, until we finally found the culprit – the Cape Sundew! We also enjoyed exploring the Childrens Garden and having a well-deserved play in the playground.

On returning to school, the children wrote a recount about their time on the trip, identifying key important moments and their favourite activities. They used this to support their learning on writing in the past tense and using time conjunctions. In Science we have been learning about plants, specifically identifying and classifying a variety of wild and garden plants.
