Sports Day 2023

Mill Hill School hosted its highly anticipated annual Sports Day on June 22, with great enthusiasm and fierce competition from all pupils. The day started with a morning of team sports, with over 20 sports being played, allowing all pupils to compete and win points for their House. In the afternoon, the Athletics Competition allowed pupils to exhibit tremendous athleticism and determination as they competed in various field and track events.

This year we awarded the Victor Ludorum, a Latin phrase meaning ‘the winner of the games’, to the pupil who produced the best performance on Sports Day. Notable mentions must go to Martina B (Cedars House) for her effort in the 800m, and Harry P (Murray House) for his effort in the 60m. However, this year, the Victor Ludorum winner, for the most impressive individual performance, went to Rafael V-B (Murray House). Rafael is in the Lower Sixth Form and has represented the School in Rugby, Football, Basketball and Cricket first teams.

Rafel’s performance in the High Jump was a fitting end to his first year at Mill Hill School. With most events finished, the crowd gathered as Rafael outjumped the competition, eventually competing against himself and ultimately finishing with a winning jump of 1.90m. At an official event, this jump would currently place Rafel as ninth in the UK for his age group, a truly impressive feat.

Sports Day at Mill Hill School was not just about individual performances but also an opportunity to celebrate teamwork and house spirit. Another highlight of the day was the fiercely contested relay races. Boys, girls and mixed teams, including staff, represented the nine houses competing in thrilling races, with each team member giving their all to secure victory. With the rest of the School watching from the Top Field bank, it was a climactic finish to the day.

The winning house at the end of the day, narrowly beating School House, was Atkinson House. However, the true spirit of Sports Day was most evident in the smiles and sportsmanship displayed by every participant, regardless of the outcome. Mill Hill School Sports Day 2023 was undoubtedly a resounding success, fostering a sense of healthy competition, camaraderie, and school pride, showcasing the dedication and talent of the pupils.
