We have had a wonderful week in Year One, and the children have been buzzing with excitement to learn about bees! We began the week sharing the beautiful illustrated and wordless book ‘Bee and Me’. The book encouraged discussions about caring for our environment, the importance of bees and other minibeasts and the beauty of nature. We used the book as a stimulus for the children to create their own stories. They have developed their own brilliant narratives and characters, focusing on the story structure.
In Maths, we have been working on fractions, focusing on halves and quarters. The children have divided whole shapes and groups of shapes into two or four equal parts. They have focused on the mathematical vocabulary: half, quarter, equal and divide.
