On Tuesday, Year 4 visited the amazing Celtic Harmony Camp. The children were taken back in time to an Iron Age village, where they were set to work on iron-age tasks such as bread making and weaving.
The children were able to grind grain using traditional quern stones, and then mix the flour into a dough for bread. We followed the journey from wool to clothing by carding, spindling and finally weaving wool into fabric using a warp-weighted loom. The children made bracelets using a Celtic twisting method and dyed them using herbs such as madder. We also took part in a trading activity where we saw firsthand how business was made without currency and tried to dodge some Iron Age scamming!
