Our Clubs

We offer a fantastic range of clubs: our pupils are lively and curious so we love to feed their enthusiasm.

We design our activities to spark your child’s creativity. We inspire them to try something new and learn about leadership and teamwork. The talents and interests we cultivate now will nourish them in the future.

Reception Clubs- Autumn Term 2019

Clubs Description

Monday

Multi Sports – Sports Academy UK: (External instructor club, Mr Daniel Lewis) 3.15pm – 4.00pm, £7.50 per session An exciting and action packed programme of activities including basic skills for sports and team building. Each session includes a personal development module which involves lots of fun and games that help improve skills such as throwing and catching, balance and coordination as well as fitness. N.B: If you took part in this club during Summer Term you will still need to apply to re-join.
Ball Skills/Games Club – Mrs Suarez-Rivas: 8.00am – 8.30am Ball Skills club will provide a great opportunity to help build on basic game-playing skills, and in particular, throwing, catching, bouncing and aiming. The focus of the club is to encourage pupils to participate and develop skills in a wide range of sports, drills and fun games leading to hockey, basketball, tennis, football, handball, and others. We hope that the children will enjoy an active start to the day to get their brains buzzing for learning!

Tuesday

Football Club – Sports Academy UK: (External instructor club): 3.15pm – 4.00pm, £7.50 per session An exciting after school Football club that will enhance the children’s knowledge, awareness and skills associated with the game. We are non-selective, no previous experience necessary and it is suitable for both girls and boys. We would like to develop a team, or two if numbers dictate, that will compete in a local tournament with other schools in the Summer Term 2019. Training will take place on the school AstroTurf and suitable training shoes will be required. N.B: If you took part in this club during Summer Term you will still need to apply to re-join.
Mindful Colouring & Craft Club – Mrs Broom: 3.15pm – 4.00pm Mindful colouring and crafts is a range of relaxing and inspiring activities that will benefit all children. The activities will help you to learn about boundaries, structure and spatial awareness. Stress and anxiety levels have the potential to be lowered. Focusing on the present helps achieve mindfulness and this will support self-confidence and self-esteem.

Wednesday

Karate – London Dragons (External instructor club): 3.15pm – 4.00pm – £6 per session. The Karate classes are for boys and girls from Reception to Year 2. The classes are designed to follow the Wado Ryu UK Syllabus which is governed by the EKF (English Karate Federation). Please note: There is an additional annual charge of £40 to be paid to the EKF. Once a member your child can then be graded. Proper Karate clothing will also be required. Pupils that took part in this club in Summer Term will continue to do so but there are some new places available.
Tap & Modern Dance Club (External instructor club): Ms Lindsay Harding/Ms Lauren Block: 3.20 – 4.10pm – £9 per session Following the ISTD syllabus the children will cover the basics of Tap in the Pre-Primary grade. This helps the children develop musicality, strength, balance and most importantly confidence! In Modern, they will also follow the ISTD syllabus and they will learn about posture, technique and develop their core strength. The exercises help encourage musicality as well as performance skills. Both genres are a really fun way to be introduced to 2 of the 3 core techniques in dance and with the class being split will allow children to have the chance to do both styles in the one class! These classes are run by BOP and will take place at The Mount Mill Hill International, Milespit Hill. Grimsdell staff will walk the children over to the Mount Mill Hill International and parents must then collect their children from there. Pupils that took part in this club in Summer Term will continue to do so but there are some new places available.
Chess Coaching Club – (External instructor club): 3.15pm – 4.00pm – £85 per term This is an opportunity for pupils to learn to play Chess. Pupils that took part in this club in Summer Term will continue to do so but there are some new places available.

Street Dance Club – (External instructor club, Ms Sophia Theodosiou): 3.15pm – 4.00pm – £7 per session Street dance club will be a fun and energetic club where the children will enjoy different dance games and develop a sense of rhythm. N.B: If you took part in this club during Summer Term you will still need to apply to re-join.

Friday

Ballet – (External instructor, Ms Haroulla Phillipou): 3.15pm – 4.00pm – £6 per session Ballet gives you strength, flexibility and poise. It helps you develop good posture, which is not only good for your appearance but also good for your spine and internal organs. It is a great form of exercise that teaches strong dance technique and a great sense of musicality. Pupils that took part in this club in Summer Term will continue to do so but there may be some new places available.

Ukelele Club – (Y2 only) Mr Mackenzie: 3.15pm – 4.00pm, £9 per session The Ukulele is the perfect instrument for beginning your child’s musical journey! Nice and small, with just 4 strings, your child will start playing their favourite songs straight away. Alistair’s Ukulele club will be lots of fun, whilst providing an excellent musical foundation for your child!

Cello Club – (Y2 only) Dr Gledhill: 3.15pm – 4.00pm, £15 per session / Cello hire £65 (with £100 damage deposit) An opportunity for the children to take their first steps into learning the cello within a small group.

Large Apparatus Club – Mrs Suarez-Rivas: 3.15pm – 4.00pm Children will be given a chance to explore large apparatus. They will be able to set up and use large apparatus safely and co-operatively. The aim of the club is to provide a range of possibilities of movement for the children to use in order to make the activity more challenging and exciting.
Lemon Jelly Drama Club: (Y1 & Y2  3.15pm – 4.10pm, £75 per term Lemon Jelly are pleased to announce that we shall now be running an After School Drama club at Grimsdell. The classes are encouraging, engaging and fun! Pupils take part in end of term presentations and can also participate in our annual theatre show.

The classes also run at Belmont school so it is great transitioning extra circular activity which helps with self confidence and friendships. These classes will take place at The Mount Mill Hill International, Milespit Hill. Grimsdell staff will walk the children over to the Mount Mill Hill International and parents must then collect their children from there.

Messy Club – Miss Deamer: 3.15pm – 4.00pm Messy play is extremely important for a child’s development. It provides children with an exciting tactile and sensory experience that inspires their curiosity, allows them to explore the world around them and enhances their learning, language and creativity. Come and join our fun and messy activities.
Hama Beads Club – Miss Mason: 3.15pm – 4.00pm Hama beads are the perfect way to create brilliant designs and decorations. Join us in Hama Bead club as we explore patterns and colours using the beads to make lots of lovely projects.

Wednesday

Basic Motor Skills-        Mrs Suarez-Rivas: 8.00am – 8.30am This club will combine games and activities to help and support the development of fine and gross motor skills.

Within the gross motor area, we will focus on balance, flexibility, agility and force and within the fine motor area, the hand- eye coordination.

Mini Cricket Club – Mrs Dean: 3.15pm – 4.00pm Sessions will focus on improving physical literacy, balance and co-ordination with a strong emphasis on fun and games!
Chess Coaching Club – (External instructor club): 3.15pm – 4.00pm – £85 per term This is an opportunity for pupils to learn to play Chess. Pupils that took part in this club in Summer Term will continue to do so but there are some new places available.
Purple Mash & Busy Things Club – Mrs Golden: 3.15pm – 4.00pm Come and explore the wonderful world of Purple Mash! You can do drawing, colouring, play games or create MashCams. You can also do some simple coding, programming and much, much more.

Thursday

Mrs Moir’s Magical Mindfulness Club (Y2 only) – Mrs Moir: 12.00noon – 12.30pm Mindfulness is all about being aware of your breathing. We will be paying attention to ourselves, specifically our thoughts and feelings. We will be breathing, meditating and learning how to be mindful. We will eat mindfully, we will walk mindfully, we will breathe mindfully and we will be mindful of the world around us.

Marvellous things can happen by just being mindful. Come along and see for yourself…

Toffee Bear Choir Club (Y1 and Y2 only) – Mrs Wakefield: 7.50am – 8.30am Pupils that took part in choir last term will continue to do so. Mrs Wakefield will be in touch independently with regards to the new entry system for the choir, this will no longer be based on invite only but open to all newcomers, however there will be a limit on numbers. If the choir is oversubscribed once the deadline date has passed then names will be picked from a hat rather than allocated on a first come first served basis.
KS1 Book Club- Mrs Harvey 3:15pm-4:00pm Are you happiest when curled up with a book? Do you like sharing stories with your friends? Do you like exploring the themes and ideas presented in a book? If so, this could be the club for you!

This is not a ‘sitting and reading’ club (because at Key Stage 1 this is a big challenge) but rather stories are used as a spring board around which activities are centred. During each session, a story will be read and shared and then we will explore its content by engaging in practical activities such as construction, collage, art and even cooking! Some books will be chosen by Mrs Harvey but the children will also have the opportunity to recommend books, which will be similarly explored and shared with the other course participants

Craft Club – Miss Davey: 3.15pm – 4.00pm In Craft club children will have the opportunity to use a variety of materials to create amazing artwork from painting to card making, collage and scrapbooking.
Crazy Science Club – Mrs Patel/Mrs Dobson: 3.15pm – 4.00pm Mad about Science! This the club for you. You will have the opportunity to discover and explore through fun hands on experiments and activities. We will also explore the outside and venture into the Science Garden.
