Drama

Drama is a popular curriculum subject at Mill Hill and many pupils take both GCSE and A Level Drama and Theatre.

There is also a wide range of co-curricular opportunities in Drama at Mill Hill, including whole school, house and departmental productions. This means that many pupils have a chance to participate, either as part of their practical drama preparation for A Level and GCSE, or contribute to House and School productions. There was, for example, an outstanding School production of Oh What a Lovely War, recently performed in collaboration with the Music department. Later in the year, each of the ten Houses perform a play at the House Drama Festival. Auditions for these take place in November. Recent shows have included The Boyfriend, Oklahoma! and Cabaret, as well as straight plays such as Dealer’s Choice and Our Country’s Good.

Some of our ex-pupils are doing well in the profession, including Harry Melling (Dudley Dursley in Harry Potter) who performed recently in King Lear at the Old Vic, and Nancy Wallinger who is part of the great team that developed The Play That Goes Wrong and Peter Pan Goes Wrong.

Our facilities include the Patrick Troughton Theatre. A Drama studio and the Main Hall for the really big productions. We are also lucky to be based in London, so frequent visits to the theatre are built into the work we do.
