The Peter Collinson Heritage Garden

The Peter Collinson Heritage Garden commemorates the collection of trees, shrubs and perennials planted on this site by Peter Collinson FRS (1694-1768) whose house and grounds were purchased for the foundation of Mill Hill School in 1807.

Mill Hill School’s top terrace, with its ancient trees, owes its origins to the life-long work of Peter Collinson, a foremost member of the 18th  century ‘transatlantic natural history exchange’. Now recognised as one of the formative influences on Britain’s landscape. A representative selection of the plants and flowers which he introduced to English gardening from across the world is now planted here, alongside his many trees.

The objective of the garden is to enhance the enjoyment of visitors, pupils, parents, Old Millhillians, and the growing fraternity of garden enthusiasts, as well as to benefit the education of all schools within Mill Hill Schools.
