Academic Enrichment at Mill Hill: A Term of Achievement and Inspiration

Following a record-breaking summer of examination results, Mill Hill’s academic departments have continued to go from strength to strength, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to excellence through a rich programme of academic enrichment.

Our pupils have excelled across the academic spectrum, taking part in competitions, trips, and special events. Here are just a few of the highlights:

Mathematics

An impressive 64 pupils participated in the annual Senior Maths Challenge, with 49 earning awards - 5 Gold and 20 Silver among them. Congratulations to Jerry Z (Lower Sixth), who achieved Best in School. In addition, eight of our talented female linguists competed in the UKMT Girls’ Maths Competition, where Rinko N earned a distinction, a remarkable achievement in a highly competitive field.

Languages

Our linguists shone at the London Schools’ Hispanic Theatre Festival, performing a self-written 10-minute play in Spanish against 11 other independent schools. Parul S’s outstanding script earned two awards: Best Actress for Parul herself and the Audience Choice Award. Building on this success, the Mill Hill Language team secured second place in the London Schools’ MFL Debating Competition at Haberdashers’ Boys’ School.

Art and Drama

Art Scholars collaborated with the Drama Department to support performances of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. Visitors to the Marnham Building can also enjoy a stunning display of artwork from last year’s examination cohorts, a true celebration of creativity.

Trips and Events

Pupils have enjoyed a wealth of cultural and academic experiences. English and Drama Scholars attended a Gothic Tales performance and a production of The Woman in Black, while A Level students were captivated by David Harewood’s Othello at the Theatre Royal Haymarket. Upper Sixth Geographers visited the Royal Geographical Society, and Psychology students explored the Freud Museum, attending a thought-provoking lecture by Mr Kleimberg, a researcher and analyst for the British Psychoanalytic Society.

Departments have also launched a new lecture series in collaboration with the Careers Department, inspiring pupils to consider where their passions might lead. A recent highlight was the Chemistry Department hosting two Imperial College lecturers, who shared insights into their careers as STEM researchers and entrepreneurs. Look out for more exciting lectures in the Spring Term.

As we look ahead to the New Year, preparations are underway for global trips and another vibrant Summer Academic Enrichment Week. The future promises even more opportunities for our pupils to learn, grow, and excel.
