Behind the Pillars - The School Podcast

This year, we launched Behind the Pillars, our school podcast, to share the experiences and conversations that make our community such a special place. Mill Hill is a hub of activity, but what makes it truly special is the people who are here. Each day is shaped by a rich blend of academic lessons, pastoral care, meaningful conversations, co-curricular opportunities, excellent food, beautiful grounds and high expectations.

Underpinning all of this is a strong sense of care and community, and the podcast seeks to capture exactly that. Some episodes are practical, full of tips and suggestions, while others offer an opportunity for reflection and pause. All of them, however, shine a light on the remarkable pupils and dedicated staff (teaching and support) who make Mill Hill such a special place.
The first five episodes have already covered a lot of ground and taken a deep dive into some key aspects of school life. Mr Huddleston provided a fascinating conversation on revision, sharing some practical tips and tricks that pupils can put into action straight away.

Mr Clayton spoke about all things Sixth Form and what makes the experience such an exciting stage of a pupil's journey. We've also dipped our toe into the vast world of co-curricular opportunities with Arthur, Elodie and Mr Vercoe (more episodes on co-curricular to come), while Ms Peel shared more about the forward-thinking reading initiative in Lower School and the impact it is having on our pupils. Most recently, Santino and Lily gave some wonderfully honest reflections on their first year at Mill Hill, offering reassurance and advice for the new Millhillians who will be joining us in September - an excellent way to settle nerves and create some excitement for September.

One of the real joys of the podcast has been the opportunity to sit down with staff and pupils and hear their stories and perspectives in a way that simply isn't possible in day-to-day school life.

It's a tremendously exciting project and September will bring an even wider variety of episodes. Central to this will be hearing directly from pupils about the topics they would like to explore and the stories they want to tell. We are also planning a series of 'Meet Our Community' episodes, giving parents, pupils and alumni the opportunity to get to know some of the people who make Mill Hill the joyous place that it is.
