CCF Round Up
It has been a busy first half of term for the CCF. In just a few weeks the contingent has seen a change of command, brought home an award from the Lord Mayor's Music Competition and thrown itself into preparations for Remembrance. As this newsletter reaches you, our cadets are once again out working hard.
A Change of Command
This term Mr Cherry took over as Commanding Officer of the contingent, bringing a fresh perspective and new ideas to the role. Mr Sayles, who previously lead the contingent, has stepped into the role of Executive Officer. His experience has made for a smooth handover, and the two are already working closely to shape the contingent's plans for the year ahead. Cadets have adapted quickly, and the change has brought a real sense of energy to parade nights.
Best Drum Corps at the Lord Mayor's Music Competition
The highlight of the term so far came at the Lord Mayor's Music Competition, where our corps of drums was awarded Best Drum Corps. The award recognised the precision of the performance, and it was thoroughly deserved. Hours of practice went into tight timing, clean stick work and sharp drill, and it showed on the day. Congratulations to every drummer who took part: you represented the school and the contingent superbly.
Preparing for Remembrance
For the past month, cadets have been rehearsing for this year's Act of Remembrance. Drill has been polished, uniforms pressed and every movement practised until it is second nature. Remembrance is the most important parade in the CCF calendar, a chance to honour those who served and gave their lives. Our cadets are determined to mark it with the dignity it deserves, and we hope to see many of you there.
Working Hard, Even on Holiday
Today the contingent is running two camps side by side. Our 5th Form cadets are being assessed on their instructional technique: the ability to plan, deliver and evaluate lessons for younger cadets. It is a demanding step, and an important one in their development as the contingent's next cadet leaders.
Meanwhile, the Removes are out on a basic fieldcraft and tactics camp. They will be learning how to move across ground, observation skills and the fundamentals of working as a section. For many, it will be their first real taste of life in the field.
Looking Ahead
It has been a busy and rewarding start to the year, and none of it would be possible without the commitment of our cadets and the support of staff and parents. Thank you to everyone involved. With Remembrance just around the corner, there is plenty more to come.
