Drama Updates

Shiver me timbers! This half-term, our Fourth Form pupils wowed audiences by taking them on a sea-faring adventure full of pirates, treachery, intrigue and adventure in an exhilarating performance of Bryony Lavery’s adaptation of Treasure Island.

Elodie H (Atkinson) and Jasper H (Murray) led a 24-strong cast in this contemporary retelling of Robert Louis Steveson’s beloved tale. With direction from Miss Sheppard and scenic and technical design by Mr Ward, the Partrick Troughton Theatre became the deck of the Hispanola as we set sail for unchartered waters. The cast delivered outstanding performances, brimming with wit, danger and charm. "Treasure island was truly a spectacular show and an immersive experience," said Christina B (McClure). "Stepping onto that stage was more than a performance,it was pure magic, passion and a moment I'll never forget."

Miss Sheppard said, “From day one, the overwhelming sense of enthusiasm from every cast member was beyond all expectation. It was incredibly rewarding to see how, by show day, they developed performances that were mature, thoughtful and joyous. It is truly a special year group who have evidently begun a journey of huge theatrical promise!” A huge bravo to the fantastic cast and crew!

Elsewhere, Remove pupils impressed audiences across three nights with ten entirely original pieces of devised theatre, as part of their Drama GCSE course. Conceived, written and developed entirely by the pupils, we were treated to a plethora of themes and subject matter. From a farcical murder mix-up to the life story of Alan Turing, from a metatheatrical ghost story to a poignant, Brecht-inspired look at socio-economic disparity, the young actors and technicians showed themselves to be thoughtful and incredibly creative young theatre makers. A huge well done to all involved!
