Embracing Every Opportunity
Reflecting on Autumn term, Seb J, an Upper Sixth pupil in Collinson House and a weekly border, reflected on what had been a truly remarkable few days, an experience that perfectly captures the spirit of Mill Hill’s Boarding community. experience that perfectly captures the spirit of Mill Hill School’s boarding community.
Before heading home for the weekend, Seb began his busy few days with his usual Hockey Academy training on Friday evening. Saturday brought a festive highlight: joining his housemates for the annual Collinson House Christmas Hog in the heart of Covent Garden. After a relaxed Sunday at home, he returned to school for a week that would test both his stamina and versatility.
Between lessons and an Eton Fives fixture, Seb attended two Oxford University interviews, an academic milestone that demonstrated his academic focus and ambition. Once those interviews were completed, he found himself singing in front of an audience that included His Royal Highness, The King, a moment destined to remain etched in his memory. The week concluded with Seb taking centre stage as a key performer in the school’s Nine Lessons and Carols service, a fitting finale to days filled with achievement, artistry, and ambition.
Reflecting on Seb’s whirlwind schedule, Mr Handy, Housemaster of Collinson House, remarked:
“Even though it’s been a busy, diverse, and challenging week, Seb is a wonderful example of how to maximise the opportunities available to our boarding community. I have absolutely no doubt that he will have many more exciting weeks like this ahead of him.”
Seb’s story is more than a snapshot of one pupil’s experience, it’s a testament to the breadth of opportunities at Mill Hill School and the resilience, talent, and enthusiasm of those who embrace them.
