GCSE and A Level Art Exhibitions 2025

Every year the Art Department hold an exhibition of artwork by all GCSE and A Level pupils. The shows are a culmination of two years’ worth of work, showcasing not only the final pieces by pupils but also their sketchbooks full of ideas, development and process.

Every GCSE and A Level artist who studies with us has their work displayed, and the difference between seeing outcomes in day-to-day lessons and being mounted and hung on walls is remarkable.

A Level Exhibition

This year we were proud to show our A Level work across two spaces, encompassing work by Toulla H, Oli G, Ezgi I, Diana P, Veer D, Charlotte C, Andy N and Christalla M.

Art is largely about individuality and personal expression - what often creates value is a connection to meaning, either in the artist’s own life or in matters they care deeply about.

Alongside the exam project, pupils were set the theme of ‘Union’. They interpreted this in their own way:

Toulla made work about her Cypriot roots, the imagery she used was sourced from the archives of her own family history. Diana made observations about the safety of others in urban environments. Christalla referenced Renaissance imagery of the Madonna and child to her own faith and sense of self in today’s world. Oli looked at our relationship to clothing, how we exist within fabric, exploring the sculptural nature of this symbiosis. Charlotte considered the union between her and her own thoughts, how they can float around and exist as a shroud around us (one made of pink tulle!) Likewise, Veer developed his work around the idea of our inner aura, fragmenting his self-image in relation to colour, form and inner thought. Andy recorded his everyday objects, depicting the materials and fabrics he interacts with daily. And Ezgi reflected on the past, her experience as a newborn and our relationships with family as we age.

To achieve this high standard of work our A Level artists worked tirelessly to develop new works, try unfamiliar techniques and experiment with new ways of seeing, consistently – their work ethic and dedication was exemplary over the two years. True artists find the balance between having full control over visual media whilst allowing freedom of expression from within - in these images you will see evidence of how our A Level pupils have mastered this.

GCSE Exhibition

In GCSE Art, pupils’ work was celebrated alongside family and friends at the Fifth Form soiree. As with A Level, pupils are encouraged to think widely about meaning and what their work communicates, not just its aesthetic properties.

Our GCSE pupils have many subjects to juggle in their every day, so the sketchbooks and final pieces on display are a real show of what can be created with care, focus and a true dedication to visual Art.

Pupils explored themes such as beauty standards, relationships with family, ageing, animal identities and the GCSE exam theme this year was Gathering and we have seen a wide array of interpretations here, from the gathering of flora and fauna, to the gathering of objects which represent our cultures. Some of our GCSE pupils will go on to study Art at A Level; those who do not take their Art studies further will hopefully hold their Art experience within them for the rest of their lives.

Look out for artwork on the school walls in the into next academic year - we hope GCSE pupils will continue to leave some of their work with us for all to enjoy in the years to come.
