- Junior Time Phillips Shield Tennis Event

Postponed from the Summer Term, last week our tennis players participated in the Junior Time Phillips Shield Tennis event. Congratulations to all thirty-six Millhillians who participated, battling it out on court in changeable weather conditions, with wind, rain and sunshine. There were some impressive and outstanding performances in both the Boys and Girls events, with several of last years Fourth Formers reaching the final stages.
In the Boys event, Ravi N (McClure) defeated Noah A (Murray) in the first semi-final with some very dominant attacking net play. In the second semi-final, it was Ben C (McClure) who got the better of Cosmo F (Cedars) – it was a very consistent and patient performance from both boys with Ben winning by a very small margin. Ravi, though emerged as the eventual winner with a final 8-6 victory.
Meanwhile in the Girls event, there were some excellent performances across the board with over ten girls taking part over two groups. Recognition must go to Sofia M (Winfield), a relative newcomer to the game and to Sophie F (Atkinson), last year's Shield winner, for their second placings within their groups. A tough battle in the final between Olivia C (McClure) and Bella B (Atkinson) showcased some excellent rally's, quick movement, great net play and deep hitting. However, it was Olivia (last year’s Shield runner up), who finally took the girls title with an impressive 6-4 win.
Ravi and Olivia were presented with the Tim Phillips Shield which will have their names engraved, and all winners and runners up received glass trophies presented by Miss Ward, Head of Tennis.
Well done to all who participated, and a huge thank you to our Tennis Captain, Lucia Z (Upper Sixth, Murray) and to Guy L (Lower Sixth, Priestley) for their expert assistance in running the event.
