Meet Cherry X
For this week’s Meet the Pupil, we’re excited to introduce Cherry X, who is Senior Boarding Monitor.
We caught up with Cherry to hear about her experiences at Mill Hill and her leadership responsibilities.
Tell us about yourself...
I am Cherry and I joined Mill Hill in Year 10, it’s now my fourth year here! I love music and it has always been a huge part of my life. I’ve been playing the piano for nearly 14 years and I’m learning the guitar myself. I also really enjoy sports and I play a variety.
Have you ever taken on a leadership role in school, and what did you learn from that experience?
I am currently Senior Boarding Monitor. This role has taught me not only the importance of communication with both pupils and teachers, but also how to resolve problems effectively. I’ve also learnt how vital it is to stay organised and manage a heavy workload in my final year.
Are you involved in any school clubs or societies? What do you enjoy most about them?
Back in Year 11, I was part of the Girls’ Basketball team, and I was Vice Captain! My favourite thing about being on the team was the team spirit, how everyone supported one another, cheered each other on, and celebrated each other’s success. I also valued the friendships we built, both across different year groups and with other schools through our fixtures.
What is your favourite subject?
I would say my favourite subject is either Chemistry or Biology, I can’t choose between them. Both have very interesting practical's, like making aspirin in Chemistry or the heart dissection in Biology. On top of that, both departments have the loveliest people ever, and I love my classmates and teachers, they make every lesson very enjoyable and engaging.
Who is someone you look up to, and what do you admire about them?
Someone I really look up to is my friend Harry L (a former Upper Sixth pupil). I admire his courage to always try new things, his adaptability towards changes in his life, and his determination to never give up. He also has amazing social skills, he can make friends with anyone, and he absolutely has a great sense of humour. He is also an amazing pianist.
If you could give one piece of advice to younger pupils in school, what would it be?
My advice for younger pupils is really simple: Work hard, play hard.
How can younger pupils stay motivated, especially when school gets tough?
To stay motivated, I’ve found that breaking down big tasks into smaller steps makes everything seem less daunting. Also, don’t be afraid if things don’t go exactly according to plan, for example, I personally love making plans for the day and to-do lists, but if I had to be honest, 90% of the time I don’t stick to my plans, however I still get everything done at the end of the day.
