We are excited to begin our new Meet Our Pupils series, where we shine a light on the experiences and achievements of our wonderful pupils.

This week, we begin with Sydney B in McClure House, who will soon complete the Mill Hill Journey, having started at Grimsdell, Mill Hill Pre Prep, and now thriving in her final year at Mill Hill Sixth Form.

We caught up with Sydney to hear about her time at Mill Hill and her leadership responsibilities.

Tell us about yourself...

I am Sydney B, and I have been in the Mill Hill school foundation since nursery at Grimsdell, so it's been 15 years now! I spend most of my time playing Field Hockey, both in and outside of school, but I also love to sing and act!

Have you ever taken on a leadership role in school, and what did you learn from that experience?

I am currently Head girl and I have been Vice-Captain of the Hockey team in Year 12 and 13. Both these leadership roles have taught me how important it is to communicate clearly and work as a team. It's not just about leading but also about listening to others, supporting them, and making sure everyone feels valued.

Are you involved in any school clubs or societies? What do you enjoy most about them?

I am involved in the Hockey team and most school theatre productions. My favourite thing about both activities is the people I have met. The friendships that form during a show are just as tight knit as those in a sports team. It's going to be the hardest part of saying goodbye to Mill Hill as these activities have enabled me to pursue meaningful connections with others, whilst also teaching me the importance of mutual respect and collaboration.

What is your favourite subject?

My favourite subject is Politics! I love that all the content is relevant to the current climate of the world. My teachers and classmates also make lessons really engaging.

Who is someone you look up to, and what do you admire about them?

I look up to both my older brothers. They are both very different, yet their ability to stay determined to achieve their goals is something I really admire. They've taught me the importance of resilience, and staying true to yourself even in hard times. They also have a great sense of humour so that is also something I admire!

If you could give one piece of advice to younger pupils in school, what would it be?

If I could give one piece of advice to younger pupils it would this:

Even if things don't go the way you planned them to go, it was not meant to be that way.

Life comes with many bumps along the way and lots of things that you anticipated would happen don't materialise. However, even if your expectations don't become realities, there is always a bigger picture.
