May 24, 2025

We are delighted to have hosted the London Schools’ Films Competition 2024/25

We are proud to have once again hosted the London Schools’ Film Competition’s Awards Evening and Gala Dinner on Friday 23 May 2025. As the founding institution and ongoing host of this not-for-profit competition, we continue to champion youth creativity and cinematic storytelling.

This event marked the third year of the London Schools’ Film Competition which has grown significantly as we welcomed 14 entries in 2022/23 and 43 in 2024/25, all with virtually no publicity.

The judging panel featured notable and esteemed judges from the film industry, including George Blagden, Dan Burman, Jonny Persey, Paul Raschid, Daz Scales, Hannah Wing, and Vincent Woods. During the awards evening, trophies were awarded to the top films in various nomination categories, with the first-place winner receiving 50% of the prize fund, the runner-up 30%, and the third-place film 20%.

Coverage of the event was provided by Old Millhillian, Finn McLean whose own journey from Mill Hill School halls to professional media showcases the lasting impact these events can have.

Events like the London Schools’ Film Competition do more than provide a competitive platform - they ignite passion, develop skills, and open doors. Watching pupils step behind the camera, command the editing suite, or guide a production from script to screen is a powerful reminder of how formative and life-changing school-led opportunities can be.

The top three 2024/25 results were as follows:

Junior Category

1st Black Intents (Hitchin Boys’ School)

2nd Scrambled (Hitchin Boys’ School)

3rd Broken (Hitchin Boys’ School)

Short Film Category

1st Stop and Think (Queen Elizabeth’s School)

2nd Solvitur Ambulando (Mill Hill School)

Looking Ahead To Next Year

The 2025/26 competition is now open to pupils aged 11–19 (Years 7–13) and features Junior, Senior, and Short Film categories.

The initiative is designed to be inclusive, encouraging participation from Schools with varying levels of filmmaking resources. The emphasis being on good storytelling and creative use of limited resources.

The vision is clear, Mill Hill School want filmmaking to be a fun experience with few barriers to entry. The competition can be entered by Schools with access to nothing but a phone camera to more professional equipment - and both should stand an equal chance of winning!
